The Federal Council deposited its instrument of ratification for the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) with the United Nations in New York on 30 January 2015. The Treaty will enter into force in Switzerland after a period of 90 days.

Im Rahmen der zweiten Ausgabe des Bürokratiemonitors gaben 1‘809 Unternehmen Auskunft über ihre administrative Belastung durch staatliche Regulierungen. 54,2 % der befragten Unternehmen nehmen die Belastung als hoch oder eher hoch wahr, 45,8 % als eher gering oder gering. Die Ergebnisse der ersten Ausgabe von 2012 wurden bestätigt. Die Regulierungsbereiche mit der grössten wahrgenommenen Belastung decken sich mit jenen der letzten Befragung. Generell hat die wahrgenommene Belastung während den letzten drei Jahren in der Tendenz zugenommen.

At the invitation of Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, Ministers in charge of WTO affairs and WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo met today in Davos. The purpose of the informal gathering was to discuss the negotiating agenda for 2015 in view of a conclusion of the Doha Round.

The head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, today met his Chinese counterpart, Gao Hucheng, in the run-up to the WEF Annual Meeting. A good six months after the free trade agreement came into effect, the two ministers noted during their talks in Zurich that exporters were making good use of the new arrangement. Other subjects addressed included the appreciation of the franc following the lifting of the minimum exchange rate against the euro, and the future of World Trade Organization WTO negotiations.

The Federal Council Economic Policy Committee has taken note of the decision of the Swiss National Bank (SNB) to abandon its policy of maintaining a minimum exchange rate for the Swiss franc against the euro. The Economic Policy Committee, comprising the heads of the EAER, Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, the FDF, Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, and DETEC, Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard, discussed the situation following the SNB decision at a meeting on Thursday afternoon chaired by Federal Councillor Schneider-Ammann. The Committee considered information provided by the President of the National Bank and discussed the potential repercussions for the Swiss economy.

Today, the Federal Council adopted the 2014 Foreign Economic Policy Report. The report’s feature topic is the impact of global value added chains on the Swiss economy. In the year under review, the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement was adopted and a new free trade agreement between Switzerland and China, in particular, entered into force. Switzerland continued cooperation with developing countries promoting sustainable economic development and strengthening the administrative capacity of governmental players

Schneider-Ammann, the head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, today met with members of the US cabinet, high-ranking advisors to President Barack Obama and Swiss business leaders in the White House. The round table discussions covered ways of strengthening economic relations between Switzerland and the USA and presented Switzerland’s successful dual-track system of vocational education and training.

Registrierte Arbeitslosigkeit im Dezember 2014 - Gemäss den Erhebungen des Staatssekretariats für Wirtschaft (SECO) waren Ende Dezember 2014 147’369 Arbeitslose bei den Regionalen Arbeitsvermittlungszentren (RAV) eingeschrieben, 10’817 mehr als im Vormonat. Die Arbeitslosenquote stieg damit von 3,2% im November 2014 auf 3,4% im Berichtsmonat. Gegenüber dem Vorjahresmonat verringerte sich die Arbeitslosigkeit um 2’068 Personen (-1,4%).

Basierend auf den neusten Arbeitsmarktdaten informiert die Direktion für Arbeit im Rahmen eines Mediengesprächs über die Entwicklung im Jahr 2014 und gibt einen Ausblick für 2015. Gleichzeitig werden die wichtigsten Herausforderungen zu aktuellen Themen aus der Direktion für Arbeit angesprochen.
