Negotiations for a free trade agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council (United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait) in the framework of the EFTA were launched in June 2006. They were concluded on April 23, 2009. The competent ministers have signed the agreement on June 22, 2009. It currently awaits ratification.
