Inspection body SIS

An inspection body examines the conformity of products, processes, services or installations with specified requirements on the basis of expert assessment. Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17020 confirms competence, reliable results and international comparability – building confidence, quality and safety.

An inspection body is a technically competent and impartial organisation that systematically examines products, processes, services or installations in order to provide information on their conformity with specified requirements. The basis for this is the international standard ISO/IEC 17020, which defines requirements for competence, impartiality and the consistent conduct of inspections.

Accreditation serves as proof of an inspection body's competence and confirms that it is capable of delivering correct, impartial and accurate inspection results. To this end, the body meets the standard's requirements in areas such as qualified personnel, suitable facilities and an independent organisation, as well as validated inspection procedures. Through competent conformity assessments, the inspection body makes a central contribution to determining whether products, processes, services or installations meet specific requirements.

Accreditation to this standard builds confidence, reduces risk and – through international mutual recognition agreements – facilitates the worldwide acceptance and comparability of inspection results. It forms the foundation for quality, safety and fair trade.
