Validation and verification body SVVS *
A validation and verification body independently assesses customer claims and confirms their accuracy or plausibility. Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17029 ensures that these assessments are carried out competently, impartially and in a traceable manner. Claims relating to data, reports or sustainability information, for example, are thus reliably examined – building confidence among stakeholders.

A validation and verification body is a technically competent and impartial conformity assessment body (CAB) that independently assesses and confirms a customer's claims. The basis for this is ISO/IEC 17029, under which the CAB defines its management system and processes for the field of validation and verification as a distinct form of conformity assessment. The object of assessment is always a claim – for example a report, a statement or a dataset.
Validation refers to statements about a future intended use or a predicted outcome, and confirms whether that claim is plausible and well-founded. Verification assesses claims about events that have already occurred or results that are already available, and confirms their accuracy.
The validation/verification body works in accordance with defined programmes and gathers objective evidence through methods such as data analysis, document review, calculations, interviews or on-site visits. On this basis, it reaches a reasoned decision and issues a validation or verification statement.
The core principles are impartiality, competence, transparency and confidentiality. The aim is to provide reliable assurance and strengthen the confidence of clients, authorities and other interested parties in examined claims – such as those relating to environmental, sustainability or performance data.
