Fight against corruption

Corruption enriches the few, but weakens society as a whole. Corruption undermines the rule of law and democracy; it leads to the wasting of public funds; it distorts competition; it hampers trade and inhibits investments. Hence, corruption is unanimously recognized as a major evil.

Instruments and initiatives

Switzerland supports various international instruments aimed at fighting corruption and is actively involved in the further development of these measures.

Information for companies

SECO has published a publication on corruption in international business transactions. Its aim is for companies to become familiar with the applicable regulations of the Swiss criminal law.
