Import Platform

The import platform provides a centralised reference point for technical requirements and facilitates the placing on the market of products imported into Switzerland.

Import Platform - General Information

The import platform has been setup to help identify the applicable technical regulations for a product to be placed on the Swiss market.

Facilitated access to the Swiss market

The following five agreements and the “Cassis de Dijon principle” facilitate the placing of certain products on the Swiss market.

Import requirements vary by product. Multiple authorities may apply. Production inputs must comply. EU imports often benefit from easier conditions. Both safety and customs rules must be respected.

Industrial products

Industrial products may be subject to various technical regulations. For example, a boat equipped with a radar may have to conform to regulations for “Modes of transportation/boats” as well as “electrical and telecommunication appliances”.

The import of everyday and specialized products such as cosmetics, children’s items, weapons, personal protective equipment, explosives, fireworks, as well as precious metals and watches is subject to strict requirements in Switzerland.
