Legal basis and data protection
The work of the Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS) rests on a clear legal framework at federal level. Laws and ordinances govern accreditation, ensure transparency and regulate the handling of data. The SAS also guarantees the protection of personal data and acts responsibly in accordance with applicable data protection provisions.
Accreditation and the associated tasks of the Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS) are governed by various legal instruments at federal level.
Specific legal basis
Federal Act on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBA; SR 946.51)
This forms the central legal basis for accreditation and thus for the recognition of conformity assessment bodies, as well as for addressing technical barriers to trade. Its aim is to confirm the technical competence of these bodies, build confidence in their results and facilitate international trade (German version).
Accreditation and Designation Ordinance (AccDO; SR 946.512)
This governs the accreditation of conformity assessment bodies in Switzerland and sets out the conditions under which accreditation is granted, maintained or withdrawn. It also defines the requirements for the designation of accredited bodies (German version).
Ordinance on the Fees charged by the Swiss Accreditation Service (FeeO-Acc; SR 946.513.7)
This sets out the fees for the accreditation procedure and ensures that costs are calculated transparently and in a traceable manner (German version).
General legal basis
In addition to the specific legal instruments above, the SAS's work is also subject to general federal provisions, in particular those governing administrative procedure, data protection, archiving, the organisation of the Federal Administration, general fees and the liability of authorities (e.g. the Administrative Procedure Act, the Data Protection Act, the Government and Administration Organisation Act, and the General Fees Ordinance).
Privacy statement
SAS places great importance on the protection of personal data. Personal data processed in the course of official activities is handled carefully, responsibly and in accordance with applicable data protection provisions. The SAS privacy statement sets out what personal data is collected, for what purposes it is processed, how it is protected, and what rights data subjects have. It forms the binding basis for SAS’s handling of personal data.
