Documents and studies
International instruments:
United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs)
- The internationally recognised UNGPs (available in French only) clarify the complementary roles of the state and companies in protecting and respecting human rights in the context of business activities.
- The Interpretive Guide provides additional background explanations of the UNGPs to ensure they are fully understood in their meaning and intent.
- The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights also provides extensive resources on business and human rights.
ILO Multinational Enterprises Declaration (MNE Declaration)
- The MNE Declaration provides guidance to businesses on social policy and responsible, sustainable labour practices. Developed jointly by governments, employers and workers worldwide, it covers key areas such as employment, training and industrial relations. With over 40 years of regular updates, its principles reflect the evolution of international labour standards.
- The ILO, working with the International Organisation of Employers (IOE), has developed a self-assessment tool for companies to benchmark their social policies and practices against the MNE Declaration's guidance. It helps companies align their practices with international standards on responsible labour and social policy.
