OECD Tourism Trends and Policies 2026
The full report for OECD Tourism Trends and Policies is now available online and is once again undertaken in co-operation with the European Union.
International tourism grows despite rising uncertainty
International tourism continued to grow in the first quarter of 2026: around 307 million international tourists were recorded worldwide – two per cent more than in the same period last year. Europe and Africa recorded the strongest growth, at four per cent each. At the same time, geopolitical uncertainties, rising travel and transport costs, and disruptions to international air travel are weighing on further growth. The industry is cautiously optimistic about the 2026 summer season.

Data and statistics
The Confederation and the tourism industry depend on a solid base of statistical knowledge. It is the Confederation's responsibility (through the Federal Statistical Office, FSO) to continue improving the statistical foundations for tourism at national level. SECO plays an important role in this work, publishing the Tourism Satellite Accounts (TSA) together with the FSO. SECO also supports the International Benchmarking Report for Swiss Tourism and the tourism forecasts.
