WTO Trade Policy Reviews
The WTO's Trade Policy Reviews promote transparency in global trade by regularly examining member states' trade policies and strengthening confidence in the multilateral trading system.
Trade Policy Reviews (TPRs) are a key tool the World Trade Organisation uses to promote transparency in international trade through regular analysis and assessment of members' trade policy frameworks.
TPRs aim to build better understanding of national trade policies and highlight their impact on the multilateral trading system by examining both economic developments and trade policy measures. Reviews take place every three, five or seven years; members accounting for larger shares of world trade are reviewed more frequently. The process is constructive and non-confrontational, with no sanctions or binding recommendations. These reviews do not enforce specific obligations under WTO agreements – that is the role of the dispute settlement procedure.
