The economic activity of the Swiss defense and dual-use industry generates a total of CHF 35 billion in value added and 137 thousand jobs in Switzerland. This includes: The production of armaments (i.e. war material and specific military goods); the production of dual-use goods (i.e. goods that can be used for both civilian and military purposes, e.g. machine tools, laboratory equipment, chemicals and certain packaging materials such as large containers for the transport of chemical-pharmaceutical substances); the production of civilian goods by defense and dual-use companies; and the effects triggered along the value chains at other industries.
