Mutual Recognition Agreements MRA

MRAs remove technical barriers to trade by facilitating the mutual recognition of conformity assessments. This eliminates the need for duplicate testing, facilitates market access and makes trade more efficient.

The MRA’s objective is to reduce technical barriers to trade and to provide products largely unfettered access to foreign markets.

Mutual recognition with the EEA/EFTA states and Turkey

Switzerland has extended the mutual recognition of conformity assessments beyond the EU, both with the EEA/EFTA states (EFTA Convention, Annex I) and with Turkey (EFTA–Turkey Free Trade Agreement, Annex V).

MRA Switzerland - EU

The Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Conformity Assessments (MRA) concluded between Switzerland and the EU has, since 2002, facilitated trade in numerous industrial products by removing technical barriers to trade.

Switzerland has concluded two MRAs with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK). One based on harmonised legislation and one that takes into account the regulations of the contracting partner.
