SAS accreditation symbol

The SAS accreditation symbol is a registered symbol that provides a traceable link between an accredited conformity assessment body (CAB), its activities and its accreditation by SAS. The design of the symbol makes it instantly recognisable.

Design and identification

SAS accreditation symbols have a uniform structure with type-specific elements. Their layout and design clearly identify the accredited CAB and SAS as the issuing authority.

SAS accreditation symbols contain:

• the accreditation type as an abbreviation (STS, SMTS, SCS, SRMS, SPTS, SIS, SCESm, SCESe or SCESp);
• the accreditation number, which together with the accreditation type uniquely identifies the accredited CAB;
• an indication of Swiss accreditation, represented by a stylised Swiss cross and the words «SWISS ACCREDITATION»;
• a reference to the SAS website, where the current scope of accreditation for each accredited CAB is publicly available.

Legal basis

Accredited CABs may use the accreditation symbol corresponding to their accreditation type in all activities falling within their scope of accreditation, as specified in Annex 4 to the Accreditation and Designation Ordinance (AccDO).

SAS rules to use of the accreditation symbol

Use of the accreditation symbols is governed by the AkkBV and by SAS Document No. 739 «SAS rules for references made to accreditation».

Provision of accreditation symbols by SAS

When a CAB is first accredited, SAS provides the accreditation symbol in a ZIP archive in the following file formats: PDF, EPS, TIF, JPG, GIF and PNG. The archive contains black/white and red/white versions.
