Oceania is located in the Pacific Ocean and comprises around 50 million people in sixteen countries and fifteen territories. Australia is the largest developed economy in the region, followed by New Zealand. The Pacific Islands economy is mainly based on the service sector, including tourism and the financial sector. Bilateral economic relations between Switzerland and Oceania are heterogeneous. While Switzerland is an important trading partner and foreign investor in Australia, economic relations are weaker with the rest of the region.
