Drop in numbers in nursing homes in 2020 and continued increase in care and assistance at home

Neuchâtel, 09.11.2021 - In 2020, 158 433 clients received services in nursing homes in Switzerland. This represents a drop in numbers of 4% compared with 2019. This decline, unprecedented since the survey began in 2006, is related to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this decline, costs rose by 2.6%. For their part, the 2546 home care services supported 420 793 people, a figure that had risen compared with 2019 (+6.7%). These are some of the findings from the Statistics on Home Care Services and the Statistics on Nursing Homes from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
