Inside SAS

As the Swiss Accreditation Service’s guiding principle, the SAS Compass sets out its mission, working methods and responsibilities. It provides guidance and forms the basis for a coordinated approach in day-to-day operations.

The Swiss Accreditation Service SAS is part of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO. It accredits and assesses conformity assessment bodies in Switzerland in accordance with international standards and makes independent decisions on accreditations. The SAS is organised into three technical sections with lead assessors and two administrative sections.

The Swiss Accreditation Service has built up a strong network of over 500 technical experts. They support the accreditation activities of our lead assessors by providing their expert knowledge on a contract basis.

SAS works closely with public authorities, technical associations, conformity assessment bodies, the business community and international partners. This ongoing dialogue promotes practical, transparent and internationally harmonised accreditation.

The SAS sector committees interpret accreditation requirements, promote a common understanding and support their implementation and assessment. Acting as a link, they bring together experts from industry, public authorities and the SAS.
