Switzerland's quality infrastructure
In February 2026, METAS, SAS (SECO) and the SNV reaffirmed their cooperation to strengthen Switzerland's quality infrastructure (QI), with a focus on efficiency, visibility and benefits for business, society and public administration.
The Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), the Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS, part of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO) and the Swiss Association for Standardization (SNV) signed a memorandum of understanding on 4 February 2026 to strengthen their cooperation within Switzerland's quality infrastructure.
Quality infrastructure encompasses metrology, standardisation, accreditation, conformity assessment, and market surveillance and regulation. It enhances the quality, safety and environmental compatibility of products, services and processes, facilitates international trade and thus makes a direct contribution to Switzerland as a business location.
The aim is to harness synergies, strengthen Switzerland as a business location and create tangible added value from the QI for companies, authorities and the public.
Exchanges will in future take place on a structured basis at least annually, and joint public communications activities will raise the profile of the QI. The memorandum of understanding is not legally binding, preserves confidentiality and independence, and makes no provision for financial flows between the parties.
