Negotiations

Bilateral trade relations between Switzerland and the United Kingdom (UK) are currently governed by the 2019 Trade Agreement. This secures the mutual rights and obligations that linked the two states before Brexit as far as possible. To this end, the existing bilateral agreements between Switzerland and the EU in the area of trade were transferred to the bilateral relationship between Switzerland and the UK as far as possible and reasonable. This contractual relationship is now to be adapted to the current needs of bilateral economic relations between Switzerland and the UK and further developed in the direction of a trade agreement that is as comprehensive as possible. Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin and the British Minister for International Trade, Kemi Badenoch, launched the negotiations on 15 May 2023.
