GDP flash for the fourth quarter of 2024: Swiss economy shows solid growth

17.02.2025 - According to the early estimate of Switzerland's quarterly real GDP around 45 days after the end of the quarter ('GDP flash'), Swiss economic output is estimated to have increased by 0.4% in the fourth quarter of 2024. This growth was driven by both industry and the services sector.

Initial results for 2024

According to provisional results, the Swiss economy grew by 0.8% in 2024 overall, following 1.2% in the previous year.1 This is well below Switzerland's average economic growth (1.8% since 1981), reflecting the subdued performance of major trading partners. The industrial sector recorded moderate growth overall, supported primarily by the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. The services sector grew at a below-average rate by historical standards.

• The flash estimate (‘GDP flash’) around 45 days after the end of the quarter is based on early information available on the production components of GDP. Estimates are used where values are not yet available. The result may therefore change after the complete and updated source data become available.
  
  
• Detailed results on quarterly GDP and updated calculations for the previous quarters will continue to be published by SECO after around 60 days.
  
  
• The GDP flash is a form of experimental statistics.
  
  
• Experimental statistics are produced using new methods and/or data sources and made available to data users at an early stage. They are a focal point of the Confederation's 2024–2027 multi-annual programme for statistics.
