A study investigating the benefits of the SME start-up portal StartBiz.ch was conducted by the University of St. Gallen on behalf of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO. The online platform StartBiz.ch had allowed new companies to register their business directly and online with commercial registers, VAT, social insurances and accident insurances. The University of St. Gallen’s study was based on an online questionnaire given to start-ups all over Switzerland. EasyGov.swiss has replaced the founder’s platform StartBiz.ch, which went online in 2004. The results show that users mainly benefited from more and better information, saving time and money, as well as the good ac-cessibility of the tool. Thanks to StartBiz and compared with the traditional route, single-member companies were able to reduce the time needed for getting started legally by two-thirds, the costs involved were halved. Across all legal company forms and users it is estimated that CHF 5.36m can be saved in time and money every year.
