Economic forecasts

The Federal Government's Expert Group publishes on a quarterly basis its forecasts for Switzerland's economic development based on assumptions about the international economy and on monetary developments. The release dates are listed below in the «Agenda» tab.

A comprehensive assessment of the economic situation in Switzerland and abroad as well as information on the economic forecast of the expert group can be found in SECO's quarterly publication «Konjunkturtendenzen» (available in German and French). Selected forecast results for the gross domestic product, the labor market and the consumer price index are summarized in the table below.

Coronavirus shrinking the economy

Economic forecast by the Federal Government’s Expert Group – spring 2020
The Expert Group expects Switzerland to plunge into recession in 2020. The spread of the new coronavirus in Switzerland and abroad is temporarily bringing parts of the economy to a standstill. Provided that the coronavirus situation stabilises, the economy should gradually recover from the second half of the year onwards. This would lead to high GDP growth in 2021, which, however, would still not allow the previously anticipated GDP level to be reached. Forecasting uncertainty is currently extraordinarily high.
